The Dancing Plague

The madness behind the work...

This piece is Natasha's most ambitious project yet, taking three months to complete this work took a great level of patience and refined skill.

 

Natasha's inspiration for this project came from the phenomena of social contagion where behaviours spread through a group rapidly. She was particularly inspired by the ‘Dancing Plague of 1518’ where people danced to their deaths solely due to being inspired by others dancing. This is an extreme example but this piece aims to show how social influence can warp our sense of self and distort our introspection, how it can make us feel like puppets and encourage us to follow the crowd.
